Hydro donates NOK 1 million to earthquake response assistance in Türkiye and Syria

The need for humanitarian assistance is immense following the two earthquakes and numerous aftershocks in Türkiye and Syria on February 6. Hydro is donating NOK 1 million to UNICEF in support of the victims.

Search for bodies and rescue works of potential survivors, including children and adults, took place amid the rubble of a collapsed building in Al Masharqa neighbourhood in Aleppo city, north Syria, on 7 February 2023. “The impact of this tragedy is felt by us all. It is in times like these that we must come together and support those in need. We have decided to make the donation to UNICEF to contribute to their ongoing efforts to support the most vulnerable,” says President and CEO Hilde Merete Aasheim.

Hydro has 23 employees in Türkiye, working at offices in Istanbul and Ankara. All employees and their families are safe and accounted for. Many Hydro employees in Europe have a deep connection with both Türkiye and Syria.

Hydro is a long standing signature partner of UNICEF Norway. The donation comes in addition to the 4.8 million NOK committed through the extended partnership agreement signed in February 2022.
