The ASC57 (Adventure Sailing Catamaran, 57m) is being constructed in Western Australia by Echo Yachts, a luxury division of Echo Marine Group. To meet the highest performance and efficiency standards, the yacht’s advanced aluminium architecture integrates extrusions and Friction Stir Welding from Hydro. FSW panels are known for their strength, durability, and contribution to reducing environmental impact in the marine industry.

57 meters of aluminium wonder

What’s so special about the ASC57? For starters, it features a twin Dynarig system, luxury accommodation, multiple water toys, helicopter landing capabilities, a regenerative power system with twin shaft generators and battery storage, and a CPP driveline. Its aluminium decks are built with Hydro’s FSW panels, ensuring the high-quality standards needed to set this vessel apart from the competition.

"We are very proud to be creating such an innovative, world-first sailing superyacht here in Western Australia. The use of advanced aluminium technologies, including extrusions from Hydro, contributes directly to the yacht’s high-quality build, reduced weight, and improved efficiency. These materials help us meet the demands for superior performance while reducing environmental impact through sustainable practices like material waste reduction and energy-efficient manufacturing processes," says Chris Blackwell, Sales & Marketing Manager at Echo Yachts

Built with superior FSW technology

By leveraging the benefits of aluminium extrusions and FSW, shipbuilders like Echo Yachts can create lighter, stronger, and more durable vessels. FSW ensures excellent quality not just in the welded joint but also in the overall flatness of the completed panels and the overall structure. The combination of extrusion design and FSW results in reduced weight, less material waste, and lower energy consumption, leading to lower production costs and emissions.

"At Hydro, we're thrilled to be a part of this project. It’s an innovative design, and the construction process will be equally impressive. The combination of FSW technology and Hydro Extrusions’ high-grade recycled aluminium materials is ideal for this project, meeting the high-performance standards of modern shipbuilding while contributing to more sustainable practices. We look forward to seeing the ASC57 set sail and make its mark in both engineering and sustainability," says Chris Moyle, Director Marine & Offshore at Hydro Extrusions.
